Training Days

The Copper State Hunting Retriever Club (CSHRC) hosts regular training days where members can work their dogs in an informal, supportive environment. Dogs range from young puppies to seasoned hunt test veterans, making these events valuable for all experience levels.

Group training offers the chance to learn from others, compare techniques, and observe how different dogs respond to challenges—insights that can help you better communicate with your own dog.

These events are also fun, family-friendly gatherings where members connect through a shared passion for retrievers. Experienced handlers are always available to answer questions and demonstrate training methods. While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, we’re here to support your progress.

Whether you're preparing for hunting season or entering HRC or AKC hunt tests, CSHRC training days are a great way to build skills, confidence, and camaraderie.

NOW LET’S GET OUR BEST FRIEND AND HAVE SOME FUN! Training Areas • Buckeye or off Cotton Lane/303 areas (Winter) • Northern Arizona (Summer) - Areas are determined by available water but are typically in the Munds Park area.

Club training typically takes place on Saturday mornings, using both land and water setups. We also host annual snake avoidance training to help keep dogs safe in the field.

In addition to regular training, we hold a fun, club-run event called Super Singles, designed to test your dog’s marking skills in a friendly, low-pressure competition.

Training locations may vary depending on access permissions. Members are notified of upcoming events via Facebook, website or email, with full details and directions.

About Copper State Hunting Retriever Club

Founded in 1997, the Copper State Hunting Retriever Club (CSHRC) is one of the most respected and well-established retriever clubs based in Arizona and now growing to over 100 members strong, we are proud affiliates of the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC), United Kennel Club (UKC), American Kennel Club (AKC), and the North American Hunting Retriever Association (NAHRA).

CSHRC is a family-oriented organization of hunting dog enthusiasts dedicated to helping owners raise, train, and test exceptional hunting retrievers of all breeds. We regularly host training days, hunt tests, and educational events designed to preserve and promote the natural hunting instincts of retrievers.

Our members range from first-time puppy owners to seasoned handlers. Many actively compete in hunt tests or participate in hunting activities across the country. Others simply enjoy working their dogs in a simulated hunting environment and learning alongside a supportive community.

In addition to hosting HRC-sanctioned events, CSHRC often takes part in public demonstrations and expos, helping educate the public about the skill, discipline, and teamwork involved in retriever training.

If you're interested in joining, training with us, or learning more about how to get started, we invite you to reach out—one of our club officers will be happy to connect with you.
